Yep. . . you know your Monday is going to be one of excellent times and flowers when you come in to find the office's boiler in the basement has been on overdrive all weekend and it's 90 degrees Fahrenheit at 7am . . . 110 at 8am and no end in sight.

You don't even wanna know how hot my server room is.

why do you wish to hurt rational forward thinking?

Why do we keep voting in fundamentalist assholes who are now giving other fundamentalist assholes the power to further propagate fundamentalist assholery?

It's another slap in the face of unbiased public education and empowering stupid people.

Fuck me . . .

I can't fucking believe it . . . it seems every couple years someone I know lands in the hospital for trying to do the right thing.

I heard about this today and I had to shake me head a couple times. A fucking great friend, talented as fuck musician and one of the nicest guys someone could hope to meet . . . interjects over a couple asshole meatheads being douchebag pricks and gets his head kicked in over it.

Tomorrow he's in for his first of many reconstructive surgeries to put his face back into a form resembling his cheerful mug.

I'm not a man of prayer or even of believing in an invisible space daddy. But if some cosmic justice could be meted out for those two pieces of shit would be nice right about now.

I've come to the conclusion I need a vacation. BAD.

So the request is in. Hopefully the 6 days off gives me the time I need to clear off my plate.

Sample guitar recordings are done, so I think I can get the texture and loop work done over a day now . . . Websites all over the place that need to be up by the weekend to match a band's CD release. Another for an existing client needs some evergreening . . . ugh . . . did I say vacation?!

All that along with the usual weekly commitments, and possibly the beercore site.

Who ever thinks being a promoter is easy . . . you're wrong. Now I never intended on being a promoter but after a few drinks I'm now stuck with a date and trying to pin down bands for a venue here in town. We'll see how this goes.

Fast earning money to put towards the full length CD is going well, so far about 1/4 of the funds to hit the studio have been made. So I suppose it's just another $2400 to go.

AND I'm happy to say headway has finally been made on some recording I've been promising for eons and have been a real shit to put down into WAV. I know . . . I suck arse. New guitar has a date with the shop soon, I think, floating bridges are cool and all, but when you play venues where drunk punk rockers regularly crash the stage I need something that won't move. Ever.

And I'm totally addicted to Street Fighter 4, even though I'm being regularly worked on Xbox Live.

This was supposed to be my month of down time!? [Feb. 10th, 2009|08:06 am]

[Current Music |Primative Screwheads - Wake Me Up Before Wendigo]

What the shit!? Really?!

Here the big plan was to do no shows in town or otherwise for the month of February and get some new tunes hammered out.

Well seeing as Saturday we were in Lethbridge playing and Friday we're doing a show here in town I guess things never quite work out how you plan.

Now I'm getting e-mails about May on the road. Christ last year playing two shows out of town was a big deal over the whole year. All of a sudden it's one a month . . . maybe next will be a whole week on the road. That would be a pretty killer life experience.

Speaking on life experiences I had a quirky one Sunday night when Lisa and I went to meet up with the dude promoting this Friday's show. Originally the plan was to hit Bottlescrew Bills . . . fine with me there, dingy meeting over some bad draft, sounds like my kind of meeting. Well, it was closed so his alternative was his place of work. Raw Bar.

Next thing you know he's dragging out REALLY good, and I'm guessing what would have been $15 a glass cocktails if we were paying, Tuna Tataki and Steak Tartar. So let's paint a picture shall we. Here are Troy and Lisa . . . dressed in dirty hoodies and jeans sitting in a place that describes itself as couture dining. On the ground floor of Hotel Arts. Being treated to some fine dining. Fact . . . Fine dining is over rated.

I have promised myself to try anything once. Once was enough. I'm not a fan of rare steak, let alone raw, I stay unpersuaded. Also not being a fish fan the Tuna Tataki was a leap. It was good. But I don't think I could eat a whole plate of it.

Well, 2009 has started off in a whirlwind. Between the office life taking more days into the realm of overtime than not, design work on the side and the band I haven't had a lot of down time.

But I wouldn't really want it any other way. As another week's end is not far off I can look forward to a hell of a busy weekend.

Friday as soon as I leave the office I have to round up the band and make haste for Edmonton only to return in the wee hours of the morning, snag as much sleep as I can and drag the backline down to Vern's for another gig Saturday night. Sunday it'll be a decent sleep in, but then it's off to the UofC to take in PZ Myer's talk.

I have a strong feeling that by Sunday night I'll be in bed by 8pm . . .

Next week it'll be time to lay down some guitar tracks for another project since the new laptop is FINALLY running my Tascam interface on Vista. And, my office-studio room will be all setup to rock out some album art that someone's actually paying for. What a nice change.

I think I need to go shopping for some new art supplies!

[Current Music |Saul Williams - WTF!]

So . . . looks like I have a new skill. Having shit break all around me.

In the last two months:

Garage door, desktop computer, bathroom taps and now my Stage guitar. That's right my favourite and only 100% functional electric is just wood with wires inside of it now. To top it all off the cost of repair isn't worth it. The parts alone to replace the damage are well over $200 after shipping. Not worth it for a guitar that's now retailing at $450.

She was a good guitar, now delegated to the project and parts bench.

BUT, the show must go on. I have two weeks until the next gig so I must spring into action . . . what will the next beast be?!

To reach my short list it must meet the following criteria:

A. Cost no more than $1500.
B. Come with or can be modded to include a Bigsby.
C. Not be some "signature" piece with little drawings all over the body.

Bon Voyage little guitar, turns out the metal composite was easier to break than the wood.

Time to take this show on the road [Aug. 22nd, 2008|08:52 am]

Holy shit,

Tonight we will be the first time gigging in a different city. Edmonton here we come.

Got another 100 CDs pressed and we're hitting the road as soon as the band is collectively off work.

Shining like a crazy balding diamond right here . . .

As soon as noon hits it's home to collect the necessities, do some house related stuff, head to the jam space and give the car a quick oil change, load gear, arrange merch, spend as much time as we got left touching up the website and then collect bodies and out of town gigging we will go.

New City Compound time baby.
